We are thrilled to announce the pilot launch of our TLN Ambassador Program, as shared during the December 2024 General Meeting! This initiative is designed to enrich the club play experience by introducing dedicated Ambassadors. These individuals will be on hand to offer support, guidance, and assistance to players during club hours.

Please note that the presence of Ambassadors will depend on weather conditions and their availability.

The role of the Ambassador is to offer responsive support when assistance is requested, all while maintaining a helpful, behind-the-scenes presence.  Ambassadors will wear a distinctive blue band on either their paddle or wrist, signifying their availability and commitment to fostering a supportive presence on the courts.

     Responsibilities may include:

Creating a Welcoming Atmosphere: Foster an inclusive and friendly environment to make all players feel comfortable and valued

Providing Guidance on Paddle Stacking & Court Etiquette: Explain paddle stacking process, offer advice on procedures and court etiquette.

Supporting New Member Onboarding: Assist new club members in acclimating to the club by guiding them through club communication tools like WhatsApp and Signup Genius.

Participating in Games Across Skill Levels: Join games, regardless of skill level, to support a more connected and inclusive play environment.

The Ambassador Program will operate as a 60-day trial. At the end of this period, we will evaluate its impact and incorporate feedback to refine and optimize the program for maximum effectiveness.  Attached to this email is the Ambassador contact list, which will also be posted on the court bulletin board for your convenience.

Thank you in advance for your support for this pilot as we continue to enhance and evolve our dynamic club.

Match Assignments: After the deadline, round-robin matches are organized into groups of 4 or 5 players, based on skill level. Match details are then sent out to participants.

Posting Results: Once games are completed, results are uploaded to the Global Pickleball Network (GPN) system.

Frequency: This process is repeated weekly.

  • Pickleball Meeting (August 12, 2024)

    Pickleball Trilogy Lake Norman

Mon, Aug 12, 1:56 PM (7 days ago)

    to bcc: me

    Fellow picklers:

As our club continues to grow (now in excess of 375 members), there seems to be several discussions at the courts with regard to our club's “rules”.

Several people either don’t care to learn the rules, disregard the rules, or complain about the rules.

There are many new members in our club and we are not setting an example in keeping with the spirit of friendly play and camaraderie.  Additionally many comments directed toward the board and to be honest, confrontations with board members occur almost daily. We do not do this to lose friends. We did not make up these rules,, but it is our responsibility to make sure they are followed and the pickleball experience is fair for everyone.

With that said we are having a general session at the Event Center, Wednesday, August 21st at 5:00 PM.  We feel it is imperative to have an open discussion and to have concerns addressed. Please be prepared to bring concerns AND suggestions, if a majority wants changes, this is how the process starts.  We are not sure how many people will attend, so you might want to bring chairs because seating might be limited.

    Thank you,

    Board of Directors

  • Pickleball Court Camera (August 8, 2024)

We have exciting news to share!!!

Thanks to the generosity of Bruce and Colleen Solomon, a camera has been installed at the courts. Pickleball Club Members will now be able to view the conditions of the courts as well as court traffic.

Follow the instructions below to obtain access to the camera:

Download the Safeview app to your phone (Click here to see the icon image).

After installing the app, you must set up a Safeview account with your email address and password.

Once your account is established, respond to this email requesting access. Please ensure the email address you are sending from is the email address for camera access.

Please be patient, as it will take a bit of time to add all the email addresses.

Once the email address has been added, you will be notified via email (or you will see a pop-up in the app that you need to accept for access.)

  • Your Pickleball Courts (June 25, 2024)

    Fellow picklers:

Well, the wait is finally over and we should all be proud of the finished product.

We would like to remind all that this Probounce Court with the PK surface is state of the art technology and will be a wonderful surface to play on.  With that said, after extensive conversation with both the installer and the manufacturer here are some points we need to be aware of:

This multi-layered court has a “curing time”.  What this means is that even though they are ready to be played on, they will not play as well now as they will as they cure and mature.  With the heat, this process might take as long as 2 months

There are many layers of glue and chemicals that are now covered that are not yet dried

During the curing process, as the court heats up, the ball will not bounce as high

This is a very durable court,  but the first 2 months or so, we might find inconsistencies with the way the ball bounces in different areas of the court

Actually, the more we play on it, the faster the court will cure

Bottom line is, please be patient.

Any questions or concerns, please let us know.

We are looking forward to the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony tomorrow, Wednesday at 5:00 PM.  Please sign up on MTL as Elizabeth would like to know what kind of a crowd to expect.  The courts will be available for play immediately after the ceremony (PLEASE HYDRATE!)

    Happy to say once again....

    See you at the courts!

  • Court Reopening Update (June 19 ,2024)

We are excited to announce that the refurbished sports courts will be opening at 5:00 p.m. on June 26th with a Blue Star ribbon-cutting celebration! Be on the lookout for the MTL Event that will provide the specific details.

To celebrate the re-opening of the pickleball courts, the Board has planned the following festivities for Saturday, July 6th. SignUpGenuis invitations will be sent for each of these events:

Celebration Tournament at 8:00 a.m. (The Tournament Committee will send details in a separate email).

Block party at 5:30 p.m. in the model home cul-de-sac for club members and guest(s) (those that live within the household).  Members must register for the picnic in order for us to know how much food to order.

Wrist bracelets for all those registered for the block party may be picked up during the morning celebration tournament. Food is complimentary to all members, with a guest fee of $10.00 that will be collected when you pick up your wrist bracelets.  Beverages will not be provided, so don’t forget to BYOB. NOTE: It is important to wear your bracelet to the party in order to go through the food line.

The pickleball courts went through major renovations. The updates include:

Resurfacing with state-of-the-art technology cushioned court all weather surface (Probounce).

The multi-sport court was repositioned to the east tennis court (closest to Latrobe’s) and supports 1 tennis court and 4 pickleball courts.

A new exit gate has been placed on the southeast corner of the upper courts for quicker access to Latrobe’s.

We are looking forward to seeing you on the courts!

  • Weekly Ladder Play (June 17, 2024)

To all TLN Pickleball Club members,

With the refurbishment of our courts rapidly approaching completion, we'd like to look ahead to mid July or so for the resumption of our weekly ladder play. For those new to the club, TLN pickleball ladders are played on a 10-week seasonal cycle for winter, spring, summer, and fall. TLN Ladders are managed using Global Pickleball Network software (GPN). Each week on Sunday, an invitation is sent out via Gmail to registered players to identify those that are available for the upcoming Wednesday - Tuesday play period. Following the Tuesday noon deadline to sign up, the week's matches are sent out with groups of 4 players arranged into round-robin foursomes by skill level. The foursomes then arrange a date and time amongst themselves to play their games. Games are played between Wednesday and Tuesday noon, results are posted into GPN, and the process is repeated.

If you would like to participate in the TLN Summer 2024 ladder, please register below as follows:

For first-time TLN ladder participants, use this link to register with the Global Pickleball Network. This is a one-time registration.

    https://www.globalpickleball.network/network/register/3770-trilogy-lake-norman

For previous TLN ladder participants, and newly GPN registered participants, use this link to sign up for the summer ladder:

    https://www.globalpickleball.network/network/ladder-league/registerPage/3770_7478-mixed-doubles-2-0-to-6-0-pickleball-ladder

You are not required to participate each week. Feel free to register for the ladder even if you have conflicts for vacations, business trips, etc. Please do not register for a particular week if you have limited availability. Lots of conflicts can make it difficult for the matches to be scheduled.

  • Pickleball Meeting, Wednesday, March 6th at 5:00 (March 2, 2024)

    Fellow picklers:

General Pickleball Meeting to update the progress at the courts. Wednesday, March 6th at 5:00 PM in the Event Center

There has been a lot of dialogue and activity in regard to the situation with the construction and timeline regarding the courts'  renovation.   At this point BlueStar is extremely close to signing the contract, and with that said, we feel it is important to share as much information as is available, knowing that some details might be subject to change.

For example, here are a few areas of discussion:

    When will construction begin?

What type of court are we getting?

    Cost to our Pickleball Club?

How long will the courts be unavailable for play?

Play outside of our club during construction

In addition, there are some items that we need to discuss as a club and vote on to finalize our requirements and what we are willing to spend.  There will be ample time for Q&A.

    Thank you,

  • Ladder Play (January 16, 2024)

    Fellow picklers:

Now that the winter ladder season has started, a reminder that ladders ARE NOT PERMITTED during the second session of the morning hours, which at this time of year is from 10:00-12:00.  Although it might be convenient for the 4 that play, it is inconsiderate for the club members that also play during that time.  This was clearly laid out in our e-mail of September 4, 2023 which is available on our website.

We are being forced to enforce this rule and anyone who decides to schedule during this time will be removed from the ladder for the duration of that ladder season.

    Thank you for your understanding.

  • Pickleball Ladder Program for 2024 (December 16, 2023)

    Winter Ladder: January 10 - March 19

    Spring Ladder: April 3 - June 11

    Summer Ladder: June 26 - September 3

    Fall Ladder: September 18 - November 26

We'll be using Global Pickleball Network (GPN) software to manage the ladders. If you haven't participated in a ladder previously, please register in GPN here:

    https://www.globalpickleball.network/network/register/3770-trilogy-lake-norman.

GPN can now accommodate 150 players vs the prior 100 players, so feel free to sign up even if you'll be out of town for a while.

Players in our ladders are divided up into four boxes by skill level in the following skill bands: <3.0. 3.0 - 3.25, 3.25 - 3.50, and >3.5. The goal of these boxes is to provide competitive and fun matches. Throughout the ladders, Dan and Jack will move players between boxes as appropriate.

If you haven't participated in the previous ladders, please suggest a skill rating to start with when you complete the Signup-Genius invitation.

A Signup-Genius invitation email will come out on Monday December 18th and signup will close on Monday December 25th.

  • 2023 Annual meeting summary (December 12, 2023)

We’d like to thank all of our Club members that came out last night to participate in our final meeting of the year and to celebrate in the Holiday party.

There were a few topics discussed that should be shared with the entire Club, including those folks that could not make the meeting.  We did achieve a quorum so all decisions became official.

    1.     The votes are tabulated and congratulations go to the newly elected 2024 Board Members.  Please reach out and give them your support.

    o   Rich Scipione

    o   Barb Kerr

    o   Carol Lennox

    o   Tom Bilger

    o   Ann Nestvogel

    2.     Shea has agreed to fund the resurfacing of the tennis and pickleball courts. Although a contract is not yet in place, it is anticipated that the resurfacing will take place in Spring 2024. Shea has also agreed to convert the multi-use court from 2 to 4 pickleball courts. However, part of the cost to do this must be funded by the Pickleball Club. While formally awaiting the contract approval from Shea Homes to rework all of the tennis and pickleball courts, it was proposed and agreed to move forward with investigating fundraising to square off the corners of the multi-use court and purchase 2 new nets.  This would allow for 4 pickleball courts of play on the multi-use court once complete.  Projected funds needed are $19k for the corners/fences and $5k for the new nets.

    3.     It was proposed and agreed to buy a Vaptor court drying unit should the funds exist following the fundraising efforts toward squaring the multi-use court.  The cost of this unit is approximately $3k. This is secondary to item 2 above.

o   Blue Star has committed to provide a small storage unit for this and all of the equipment in the current metal box.

    4.     Club Financials for 2023 and the proposed Budget for 2024 were reviewed and approved. Club dues for 2024 will remain at $30/year and any excess amounts beyond normal budgeted expenses will go toward our Capital fund for the court development needs.

o   Remember that dues must be paid by Jan 15th.  We will send a reminder soon.

o   Dues can be deposited in the box at 7136 Hanging Rock or at the courts in the black lock box

    5.     The Club recognized two members for their exceptional contributions during 2023. Eleanor Frisch was selected as Woman of the Year and Jack Kaplan was selected as Man of the Year.

Once again, thank you for your participation and we look forward to another great year in 2024.

  • Annual Meeting and Holiday Party Reminder DEC 11 (December 3, 2023)

As we prepare for our annual club review meeting and Holiday party, here are some reminders.

Candidates running for the 2024 Executive Board will be available from 3:45 to 4:30 in the event center to give you the opportunity to meet those you may not personally know and ask them questions before casting your ballot. The only exception is Tom Bilger who is away on vacation and Rich Scipione has offered to field questions for Tom.

The Holiday Party will commence following the close of our meeting – approximately 5:30, including a buffet dinner with a full open (cash/member-charge) bar. Twin Mills Club has graciously opened the Event Center to host our meeting, plus is providing exclusive access to our members throughout the club for our Party.  Realize, this is a Monday and the club is normally CLOSED on Mondays!

  • 2024 Candidate Bio's (November 29, 2023)

    Pickleball Trilogy Lake Norman

Wed, Nov 29, 5:50 PM (9 days ago)

    to Pickleball, bcc: Belle.ulander

Several Club Members have requested a little background note from our 2024 Board Member Candidates.  Each has supplied a short commentary to share with you and hopefully this helps you to make an informed decision.  Remember to feel free to contact them in person or via their email that was shared in the previous communication.

     Barb Kerr (Incumbent):

I believe I am an ideal candidate for a position on the Pickleball Board due to my unwavering commitment to positive change and my proven track record of leadership while serving as a Board member for the past 3+ years. Throughout my tenure, I have consistently demonstrated a strong sense of integrity, dedication, and a passion for serving and improving the Trilogy pickleball community. My experience has equipped me with the skills needed to navigate the challenges we face as our membership has dramatically increased from 50 to 350 members during this time.

I began playing PB in 2019 as a novice and after 4 years of committed social and competitive play at Trilogy, I now compete at the 3.5+ level. This experience has aided me in recognizing the diverse skill levels of individual players and has influenced my decision-making processes. It has also enlightened me on how to suggest ways to improve and enhance the enjoyment of Trilogy pickleball play time such as paddle stacking and club-time procedures, closed game etiquette, supporting fiscal responsibilities, serving as liaison with Blue Star staff and other member led clubs.

I am driven by a genuine desire to make a meaningful impact , and if elected, I am committed to fostering transparency, promoting inclusivity, and working tirelessly to address the concerns and aspirations of all levels of our community.

    Barb Kerr

    Carol Lennox (Incumbent):

I heard about and started playing Pickleball when I moved to Trilogy in 2017.  I’m rated a 3.3-3.5 player.  I’ve been an active member of our club since its inception. I’m currently serving my 2nd term as treasurer. I’ve been involved in all of our club board  meetings and decisions to improve our club and facility. I believe the game can be enjoyed at many levels, from purely social to competitive. I look forward to continuing to serve our Pickleball Club.

    Carol Lennox

    Tom Bilger:

I started playing pickleball about 5 years ago, shortly after moving to Trilogy. I have played at Hilton Head and locations around Charlotte. I also have visited several other Trilogy neighborhoods to learn how to make our club better for everyone.

I consider myself a 3.5 but enjoy playing at all levels.

I want to be on the board to continue the TLN tradition within the community for enjoyment, sportsmanship, health, and social interaction for organized recreational and competitive play. I believe our club can be fair and fun for everyone.

I like to have fun on the court as well as off the court. I enjoy playing the game, but more importantly, meeting new residents and introducing them to the game through the 101 and 201 clinics.

    Tom Bilger

     Joe Broome:

I've been playing pickleball since the courts opened here in 2017. I consider myself a 3.75 - 4.0 skill level. I love the game of pickleball and I'd like to help bring the members of the community together in this sport. I think I can offer a fresh perspective to the club and help members develop their skills while enjoying the game. The good thing about our club is that there are all different levels of players and there is a place for everyone to enjoy the game.

    Joe Broome

     Lisa Henkel:

I have been having fun playing pickleball for the last 2+ years, and enjoyed the many friendships I have made in our club.

I play on average at a 2.5 level...some days more and some days less!

I would like to continue the great work the current board has done, and offer the voice of a less-than-advanced as well as to the working players.

I have been a part of or led many teams that created events for large groups. I still work, albeit part time and with flexibility. I have a positive outlook, smile when winning or losing (most of the time!), am a good listener, offer supportive feedback, and enjoy being creative. I consider this Club my NC family.

    Lisa Henkel

     Ann Nestvogel:

I have lived in Trilogy since 2019 and began playing pickleball shortly thereafter and have never looked back. I spend a considerable amount of time at our courts working to learn skills and improve my game and would consider myself an intermediate player.  Additionally, I enjoy the camaraderie and social aspect of our club and believe I would be the right person to represent players of all ability levels.

I credit our Trilogy PB Club for providing numerous benefits such as: multiple level clinics, fun competitions, free lessons for all levels and abilities, and of course various social gathering opportunities. All of this has allowed me to enjoy playing while making many new friends.

During my professional career of 43 years with Wells Fargo, I developed extensive computer and project management skills, bookkeeping expertise, and successfully served in multiple management/leadership positions.   These are just some of the attributes that I feel will serve me well while performing the various duties and meeting the numerous demands of a Pickleball Board member.

I would be honored to serve on the board to further promote the enjoyment of pickleball within our community. I am committed to collectively explore options which would increase communication and implement productive ideas to further enhance our Trilogy Pickleball Club.

    I also make a fabulous cheesecake. :) :)

    Ann Nestvogel

     Dave Risley:

I started playing Pickleball after moving to Trilogy.  I consider myself a mediocre player, capable of good shots but not consistent.  I would like to be on the board as a voice for intermittent/casual players, whether members or not.  My wife and I both joined the club but she quit playing rather quickly due to the intensity of most of the club members.

As for my personal note, I was once an avid hunter and worked in the fish and wildlife field most of my life.  I still love the outdoors and I’ve tried a plethora of sports but always had to keep my day job.

    Dave Risley

Thanks to all of our candidates and good luck.

  • DINKERBELL 2023 on Dec 16th (November 17, 2023)

Gentlemen, be on your best behavior and you may be chosen.  Ladies, the power is yours.

Based on the immediate response with sold-out sign ups last year, our Sadie Hawkins style Pickleball Social is back for a repeat performance – this year referred to as DINKERBELL 2023.  If you recall, this is a mixed doubles outing with the twist of a minimum Team age sum of 127 or higher.

What does that mean?  If the male is 70 and the female is 58 – that totals to 128 and would qualify to participate.  This is NOT a tournament, but simply a fun day on the courts.  Your partner is NOT required to be your spouse (in some cases that might be best?!?).

Who holds the power?  The female MUST ask the male to create a team, similar to a Sadie Hawkins day of pickleball.  Therefore, once the team is established, the female will register in Signup Genius with her partner’s name.  The male cannot and should not sign up.

Start your schmoozing for a good partner – BUT it is all up to the Ladies!!

This is all for fun and laughs with NO pressure; definitely not looking for win-at-all-cost playing.

    ·       What box makes sense for me.

  • Modification to the Fall Ladder (September 4, 2023)

    Pickleball Trilogy Lake Norman

Mon, Sep 4, 4:44 PM (5 days ago)

    to Pickleball, bcc: Belle.ulander

    Modification to the Fall Ladder:

Thank you to everyone who has given feedback regarding our Fall Ladder changes.  We have heard both supporting replies as well as questioning replies.  As a result, we want to try to make as many players happy as possible so will modify our original plan to the following:

    ·       Thursday afternoon will remain the target day for all ladders to be played.

    ·       We have reserved the multi-use court for Thursday evenings so all 6 courts will be available for play.

    ·       Only 3 courts will be set aside for Ladder play across 3 time slots (4:00-7:00).  This will allow open play on the remaining courts for others such as those that still work, etc. and allow 36 players to complete their ladder.

    ·       If all 3 designated courts are already scheduled, you may still plan your ladder during this time – but must rotate with open play on the remaining courts.

    ·       If you want to play at another time due to availability of the 4 players, DO NOT schedule play during the 9:00-11:00 morning Club hours (on any day).  This means that you must be done by 9:00 am at the latest so should not schedule a ladder any later than 8:00 am.

    ·       As daylight dwindles, we will adjust to accommodate.

    ·       Due to the changes, the SignUpGenius registration will remain open 2 extra days until Sep 8th and will now permit up to 150 sign-ups.

Regarding Compass Draw matches.  DO NOT SCHEDULE ANY MATCHES DURING MORNING CLUB HOURS (on any day).  None during 7:00-9:00 or 9:00-11:00.

  • Round Robin Update (September 2, 2023)

    Pickleball Trilogy Lake Norman

Sat, Sep 2, 2:55 PM (2 days ago)

    to Pickleball, bcc: Belle.ulander

Tuesday, September 5th has been cancelled due to the Labor Day Tournament.

After much feedback, the Round Robins will run a trial of rotating 3 levels of play.  This will accommodate the lowest to the highest skill levels so many players can participate and enjoy this competitive night out.

Tuesday Sep 12th will be our first night hosting only the highest level players.  If you need to ask if this one is for you, then it is not.

Tuesday Sep 19th will be a true intermediate level of play.  Those that found themselves not quite the best in the Club or that found that there were many novice/beginners and wanted more challenge, this one is for you.

Tuesday Sep 26th will be a novice/beginner level of play.  We have so many newer players or developing players that want this opportunity too and this one is for you.

We will then go on a rotation following these three levels of Round Robins.

As a Club, we are always listening and trying to accommodate everyone’s requests and desires, but sometimes we will just have to run trials until we get it just right.  Here’s hoping this adjustment will serve more players’ needs.

    See you on the courts.

  • Use of the Quad's Facilities (July 13, 2023)

    Fellow picklers:

It has been brought to our attention that Pickleball players have been interrupting fitness classes in the Quad in order to use the bathrooms.  We find it hard to believe that we have members that can be so inconsiderate.  Because of the actions of a few members, the back door of the Quad will be locked while classes are going on at the Quad.  We are now being asked to use the back door of the Art Studio to access those facilities.

If for whatever reason the back doors of the Quad are not locked and there are classes in session, please have the common decency not to interrupt the class.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

Trilogy Lake Norman Pickleball Club Board of Directors

  • Usage of Restrooms in the Quad (July 10, 2023)

We have been asked to communicate to our Club members that when the black bands are across all the doors to the Quad, that you refrain from entering to use the restrooms.

Those bands are signaling to the outside that a class is being held and would prefer those not attending that particular class to restrain from interrupting it and use the facilities in the Clubhouse or Art Center.

Hopefully we can all respect this request.....................THANK YOU in advance for your cooperation!!!

  • Reserved Courts and Closed Games (July 7, 2023)

With the very warm weather upon us, a much higher volume of players are using the courts in the early hours.  With that, people should have a fair chance to play, like everyone else.

Beginning Monday July 10th, the Club will stop closed games.  The Club will instead begin using reserved courts under fair conditions for all.

Signup Genius will be modified and new rules established per the following:

    1.     Reserved Courts will be restricted to courts 5 and 6 (2 courts closest to the parking lot).

    2.     Courts can only be reserved in the 7:00-9:00 am and 6:00-8:00 pm periods.

    3.     A single player will sign up for the court but must include all 4 names in the comments.  (More players can be included if rotation is the plan).

    a.     If this is a Compass match, the sign up should include the two Club members and a note of “2 guests”.

    4.     Players may not reserve courts more than twice per week – including those listed in the comments.

    5.     For fairness, once all 4 courts are full and at least one person is waiting, the reserved courts are relinquished and all players go into normal rotation.

    6.     Most importantly .............use common courtesy and treat others as you would like to be treated!!!

    Thank you
